Each item adds an approximate floor area. We assume boxes and smaller items are stacked.

Rough guide by home size
How much fits depends on how well things are packed and stacked. Bulky furniture, a lot of whitegoods or a garage full of tools can push you up a size.
- A few boxes, bikes or boards: Locker (1.5 m²)
- Studio or small one-bedroom flat: Small (3 m²)
- One- to two-bedroom apartment: Medium (6 m²)
- Two- to three-bedroom home: Large (9 m²)
- Three- to four-bedroom house: Extra large (15 m²)
Packing tips that save space
Use same-size boxes
Boxes of the same size stack safely and use the full height of the unit.
Take furniture apart
Remove table legs and bed frames and stand mattresses on their side in a cover.
Leave a walkway
Keep a path to the back so you can reach things without unpacking the lot.
